Carl Edwards and Ashley Force were both just fractions of a second away from capturing victories on an important weekend for Ford Racing.

After a successful debut in 2007, the Countdown to 1 is back featuring a revised format as the National Hot Rod Association prepares to crown its champions in its four Pro categories. The new six-race championship playoff format, which kicks off this weekend in suburban Charlotte, NC, is modeled after the successful NASCAR Chase for the Sprint Cup. The top-10 drivers from the regular season (first 18 races) advance to the Countdown to 1 and each is credited with a staggered point total based on their regular season finish.

Mustang driver Robert Hight won the biggest NHRA race of the season, capturing victory at the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, while Oswaldo Negri Jr. and Mark Patterson won the Grand-Am Rolex Series race in Millville, N.J., on a busy and successful weekend for Ford Racing.
