It was his sixth victory of the season and the 13th of his career, and it came in front of more than 160,000 packed into the Bristol stadium.

MAZDASPEED MOTORSPORTS 2008 MID-SEASON REVIEW

MAZDASPEED MOTORSPORTS 2008 MID-SEASON REVIEW

The 2008 race season started off on a high note, both on-track and off. An underdog win by the Castrol Syntec SpeedSource Mazda RX-8 team at the Rolex 24 at Daytona saw Mazda take its 22nd class win in the American 24-Hour classic. Less than a month later, all eyes turned to the unification of open wheel racing. While that was welcome news for race fans, it created a great deal of additional work for many organizations. Mazda was hit especially hard with four Mazda-specific series directly impacted, and has spent the past six months in rebuilding schedules for 2008 and 2009.

The proclaimed economic depression and recession did not effect the 2008 Fonatana Super Chevy Show with 100 more particpants than last year.

Even a new Chevy Malibu Hybrid attracted some attention during the show. It seems that the miserable CAFE standard of 35 mpg is going to put a big squeeze on the future of GM performance cars. More of these hybrids will have to be on the road if the new Camaro and Corvette are to survive.
